Skepta "Sunglasses At Night" (Music Video)
For those not in the know, it samples Corey Hart's hit from the 1980s.
It's not bad, it's catchy and it'll be Top 10 hit no doubt; but it seems that everyone's now following that trend of just spitting the simplest of bars over a familiar sample.
Cue more people flossing with shades in the club, looking foolish. How you guys (and gals) can see anything when you wear them is beyond comprehension.
On another note, it's all about DJ Ayres' re-edit of the original. Well worth tracking down...

Then Friday, I'm off to "Rugs Are Badd" @ The Custard Factory in Birmingham. It's gonna be filthy!

Letters From Kanye...
I was a bit puzzled when I checked my Blackberry yesterday morning, to find an email from "Kanye West". By the looks of things, it seemed that I was Bcc'd into an email with someone at TBG (who?) regarding pictures. Attached was an MP3.
I then get another email later that day to say how I was Bcc'd by mistake, and as the MP3 was free to put up on the blog.
After getting my Google on, I found out that that Kanye's email accounts & Myspace had been hacked into, and further Googling showed that this was a marketing scheme to promote another artists music. Who that artist is, I don't know, as I deleted the MP3 thinking it was a Trojan virus.
Looks like no-one's safe from being hacked these days...
LOL @ the "people stop sending me spam" line though. To quote my high school English teacher, "Oh the irony!"

UK Funky Reaches the US (Video)
Following on from Wale's "Head, Shoulders, Knees & Toes" freestyle, which Semtex leaked over the weekend, it seems that US is getting down with Funky/Afro House/UK Funky/Funky House (delete where appropriate).
The above video features Theophillus London & Jesse Boykins III skanking out to "Bongo Jam" by Crazy Cousinz during a show at SOB's. Word has it that he'll be doing his own version of "Head, Shoulders, Knees & Toes" too.

Clipse x City News Interview (Video)
City News hooks up with Pusha & Malice to talk about their forthcoming album, "Till the Casket Drops", and their Play Cloths clothing Line.
If their recent mixtape is anything to go by, "Till the Casket Drops" should be a solid release...unlike the Re-Up Gang album, which kinda sucked.
Wale "Heads, Shoulders, Knees, Toes (Freestyle)"
Following on from Wale's Twitter episode last week, he and Semtex have patched things up, and we get a new freestyle as a result.

DJ Cable Vs. Skream & Mike Jones "Still Tippin On The Request Line"
So for 2009, I'll be putting blends/mashups/refixes together on a fairly regular basis for your listening pleasure, or to use during DJ sets, or on mixshows (just as long as Cable gets credit!). I've already leaked a couple, which I'll post up later this week.
In the meantime, here's a little Dubstep/Thugstep mashup between Skream's "Midnight Request Line" & Mike Jones' "Still Tippin". If you're wondering what "Thugstep" is, and how it originated, it was brought to life by DJ Nappy
Anyhow...Sit back, download, turn it up and zone out.

Leaders1354 x Reebok Reverse Jam Red Lines
More Reverse Jam goodness!
Originally released back in November, the Leaders x Reebok Reverse Jam was based on the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) subway set-up. The different subway lines (red, blue, green, yellow, orange, purple, brown, and pink lines) have all been incorporated into the midsole speckles.
This upcoming model features a red Reebok logo instead of the blue logo on the previous November release; the reason being that both the red and blue CTA lines run close to Leaders1354’s two locations, while the blue translucent sole with the CTA map is a tribute to Lake Michigan.
Available at the Leaders1354 store in downtown Chicago on Saturday, January 24th.

R.I.P. Tony Hart, who passed away earlier today. I remember watching "Hartbeat" as a kid; It was one of the illest shows.
I never ever got round to submitting anything to "The Gallery" though (a section where Tony would show other kids' artwork which were sent in)...Mainly because my drawing skills aren't the best the best in world. But I digress..
He also created the iconic plasticine character Morph, who became a regular fixture on his shows.
Shout to Tony Hart for inspiring many generations of kids to get into art.

Some dope cuts throughout this mix, from MSTRKRFT, Kid Cudi and, Bag Raiders, to some UK Bassline from the likes of T2 & Delinquent, to the Eurythmics and even Van f*uckin' Halen! You need this...

Rane TTM 56S Mixer
The Rane TTM 56 is arguably the best scratch mixer out there. I've tried practically every major scratch mixer on the market, and nothing stands up to the faders, and overall build quality of the mixer. After getting a TTM 57, my old mixer is sitting there gathering dust, but will surface again once battle season's up and running.
Anyhow, Rane are now replacing the TTM 56 with the TTM 56S, which has not only seen a small facelift, but also new and improved features:
• Universal internal power supply works anywhere you can plug into 100-240 VAC.
• All four inputs are now Phono/Line switchable - plug in 4 turntables or 4 CD players, or any combination.
• Both 1/4" and 3.5 mm headphone jacks are now provided on the front.
• The Transform switches are now Kill switches.
• Operation is simplified by putting all the controls on top, increasing the width by one inch. Text is now readable in the dark under black light.
You'll also be glad to know that Rane haven't changed the faders at all. The inclusion of XLR outputs would have been a nice touch, but that's not the end of the world.
Shout to my boy Lewis/Sketchy for the heads up.

It's about time that I put you all up on some more Electro...Yeh, I know, I've been pretty biased with all the Hip Hop & sneaker posts! The blog's going to have a bit of a facelift soon, including some of the content, so stay tuned!
Anyhow, this gem comes from French duo Donovan. To sum up their style, they've got a Chromeo-esque kind of sound to them; crunchy electro with an 80's feel. They've also banged out some sick remixes for the likes of Sebasiten Tellier & In The Club (Their remix of "Turn You On" is straight fire).

Sneaker Pimps "6 Underground" (Music Video)
So I'm sat at home watching The Saint on ITV2, and this comes on in the background during one of the scenes. I forgot how dope this track was....
As for the movie, it wasn't the best in the world (given the fact that I'm fan of the original 60's TV show starring Roger Moore, so I'm going to be biased). They reinvented Simon Templar as a professional thief, and threw in some crazy plot involving double-crossing Russian businessman and cold-fusion technology...Plus a couple of explosions too. Obama Appears in Spider-Man
Barack Obama is set to appear on the cover of a special edition issue of Spider-Man. He'll also be featured in a 6 page story, where Peter Parker is assigned to cover Inauguration Day, where an imposter turns up...
Obama's fan status was revealed by his campaign team, who released 10 little-known facts about the Democrat. One of them being that he collected Spider-Man comics. As a result, Marvel Comics editor Joe Quesada was inspired to write him into one of the story lines. Check out the full story here

Lyre Bird imitates Car Alarm & Camera Shutter! (Video)
Just spotted this over at A-Trak's blog. This Lyre bird can imitate its surroundings, by mimicing other birds' calls, other animals, plus human-related sounds such as car alarms, camera shutters, and even f*cking chainsaws! Crazy....

Swizz Beatz Feat. Lil Wayne "Up In This Club"
This started out promising, and then turned crap quite quickly when the beat kicked in. As much as I love most of Swizzy's production, this isn't his best work...
Listen/Get: Swizz Beatz Feat. Lil Wayne "Up In This Club"
If you want to know where the original sample came from, it's "Female Of The Species" by Space - A 90's Britpop band, who had a small string of hits (this one even featured in an advert for ladies' deodorant), and then disappeared into obscurity. Anyhow, like Swizzy'z joint, this song isn't that great either...
I love how there's always the one band member who has to wear sunglasses.
T-Pain Feat. Chris Brown "Freeze" (Music Video)
I'm not really the biggest fan of T-Pain. In fact, I sometimes find him quite annoying (but I think that's because 2008 officially killed autotune). But I have to give him credit, as he's been putting out some of the best music videos recently. Someone's blatently swagger jacked the "Yo! MTV Raps" logo and colour scheme, and worked it into the video. But I have to say that the end result is dope. In fact, the track has even grown on me slightly...Saying that, I do also have a soft spot for "Buy U A Drink"...Ahem....
Now that Travis McCoy has recently joined the Nappy Boy team, it looks like they'll be making some serious moves in 2009.
On a side note, my girl went to see Chris Brown in concert yesterday...Dude really needs to up his fashion game imo. Red leather jacket x white jeans isn't a good look.

Transformers 2: Revenge Of The Fallen
I'm a massive fan of the Transformers series. It's the only cartoon I can recall watching religiously back in the 80's. Whilst Michael Bay's effort had a couple of flaws (e.g. too many stories going on at once, redesigns of some of the robots), it was fairly entertaining. Even my girlfriend liked it....
Anyhow, the sequel is set to be released on 26th June, and will introduce a load of new Autobots and Decepticons, such as Jetfire, Sideswipe, Arcee (who will now transform into a motorbike), Jolt, The Contructicons (who will merge to form Devastator), and Soundwave. According to Wikipedia, the plot revolves around something to do with Egypt. I'm interested in seeing where they go with this movie...As long as they get Soundwave correct, I'm happy. Dude is my favourite Transformer of all time. But that's enough geekery for now....
There's also random footage of movie shoots appearing up online from. This one shows some of the vehicles used for the autobots: A Silver Concept Centennial Corvette (Sideswipe), a yellow Chevy Camaro (Bumblebee), flamed truck (Optimus Prime), an orange Chevrolet Beat and green Chevy Trax (unknown characters), and a GMC Dropkick C4500 (Ironhide).

Just got the pics up online from New Year's Eve. Shout to everyone who reached Qube in Colchester. Apparently town wasn't that busy, but this place got pretty rammed once it hit 11pm....How I wasn't hungover the next day is beyond comprehension. The Grey Goose was out in full effect....
Pretty much everything got played, from House, to Electro, Bmore, Miami Bass, 80's, Rock/Indie, Hip Hop, and even some Motown too. After some careful rewiring with 2 Serato boxes, we were also able to run dual laptops simultaneously....
It was all a bit too much for some.
However, due to being drunk, you kinda forget to take pictures of some of the funnier things that happened...I took a lot of crowd shots, but they all came out blurry...Maybe I'll remember to up my photography game next time...
