DJ Cable's Weekly Mix #31 (Download)

Another week in, another mix up for grabs....

This week, I decided to throw together a small Hip Hop mix featuring a couple of the artists from the "Rock The Bells" tour. For those not in the know - It's kinda like an all-Hip Hop version of the "Lollapalooza" festival over in America.

The mix features some classic joints from the likes of Rock The Bells artists A Tribe Called Quest, The Pharcyde & Nas. As a bonus, I also threw in some classic Common & some Gang Starr for good measure too!

01. A Tribe Called Quest Feat. Tammy Lucas - 1nce Again
02. Common - Dooinit
03. The Pharcyde - Drop
04. Nas Feat. Ludacris & Doug E. Fresh - Virgo
05. Gang Starr - Full Clip
06. Nas - Nas Is Like
07. Q-Tip - Let's Ride

Got any thoughts? Gimme a shout!

Also - I've recently jumped on the whole "Fan Page' thing here on Facebook....Become a fan and you'll be able to get the Blogspot updates, youtube links and more via Facebook....

DJ Babu Feat. M.O.P. "Dearly Departed"

New joint from Babu's third installment of the Duck Season series, due out in October.

"FIYYYAAAAAH!" As those M.O.P. chaps would say.

Eminem "Steppin' Onto The Scene" & "Fattest Skinny Kid Alive"

Here's some early Eminem for your ears (I haven't heard these before), taken from Bassmint Productions’ "Steppin’ Onto the Scene EP". The quality's not outstanding, as it was obviously not recorded in a professional recording studio, so no complaining!

Definitely worth checking out to hear Em's flow (and rap voice) from back in the day...

DJ Cable's Weekly Mix #30 (Download)

Redman Feat. Roz "I Get Down Like That"

Just stumbled across the MP3 of this forgotten gem!

I remember picking this up on one of those "Archives" compilation 12's a few years back. Ridiculously hot joint, featuring Roz (Redman's sister!).

Apparently this track first came to light on a white label Redman record called "Dat Underground Shit !!!!". This 12" mysteriously appeared after "Dare Iz A Darkside" and before "Muddy Waters". I don't think it even got a promo release on Def Jam....The 12" also featured a couple of mixes of "I Can't Wait" and another track called "Montage", which is an edit of various verses from different songs.

Anyhow, enjoy!

P.S. If anyone can shed any more light on this track, let me know!

Big L "Principal Of The New School" (Prod. Showbiz)

Some VERY rare Big L for you...Possibly the 1st song he ever recorded, according to

It's a shame that Big L passed away - apparently he was set to sign with Roc-A-Fella, but died a week before. If he was still alive, the whole game would be different. He would have put a lot of wack emcees in their place....Dude was a beast on the mic!

For those who don't know about him, Lifestylez Ov Da Poor & Dangerous is a classic album....Go cop it!

DJ Khaled Feat. T-Pain & Kanye West "Go Hard"

The Game Feat. Lil Wayne "My Life" (Music Video)

Ghostface Killah - Deleted "Iron Man" Scene (Video)

It seems that Ghostface's Iron Man obsession has paid off, from having his music video playing in the background in the new movie, to actually making an appearance in the film himself!

Check out this deleted scene, where he makes a cameo at a party in Dubai.

Facebook Deleted Me!!!

So I went to sign in earlier this evening, and was informed that my account has been "disabled"....which basically means they've deleted my ass (the reason is still unknown) from Facebook....

Damn! So I've had to start up again, and get on re-adding all my past contacts....Shame really, as I had accumulated a solid fanbase, and was getting a number of bookings through my profile....

Now, I use this just like any other DJ as a means to promote myself, my mixtapes, music and to also meet new people and keep in touch with old school/college/uni friends....I'm hardly a spam bot, so I don't see what the problem was...

Anyhow, if you were on my list, or if you wish to add me, click here.

I'm now on there as "Chris Deejay Cable" - due to a clamp down on nicknames/aliases.

R.I.P. Isaac hayes, who just passed away.

For those who have been living under a rock, he was a soul legend. Best remembered for "Theme From Shaft" (which won him an Oscar back in 1971), an outstanding back catalogue of dope music, and also as the voice of Chef in South Park.

It's a damn shame....

Max Payne Movie Trailer

I was a massive fan of the game, so I'm really looking forward to this movie.

However, my only concerns are:

1. It still better be in film noir style, and not delve into some stupid supernatural shit (which may be the case if you watch the trailer closely, or check out the suggested plot outline).

2. The 'bullet-time' is done well, and doesn't come off looking like a poor man's Matrix.

3. The characters have depth to them like in the videogame. Too many action films have weak main & supporting roles....

4. It follows the storyline of the game accurately, unlike the "Super Mario Bros" movie, which sucked balls....

Saturday 2 August 2008

David Banner Feat. Lil Wayne "Shawty Say" (Music Video)

It never ceases to amaze me how someone can get away with a feature on another artist's track, when all they done is had their voice sampled from an existing record....

That said, I'm feeling this joint. So much so that I actually threw it in my June Monthly Mix. Not listened to it yet? Go check it out!

Friday 1 August 2008

U-N-I "Castlevania" (Video)

It seems that sampling retro video games has become a trend for 2008.

That said, I am a sucker for music that samples old skool games, this track being one of them....

Statik Selektah Feat. Big Shug "Punch Out"

However, I do think maybe U-N-I should have flipped "Vampire Killer", instead of the boss theme....But that's enough video game geekery for one day....

On the real though, nothing will ever beat "Super Brooklyn" by the Cocoa Brovaz....

cocoa brovaz - super brooklyn(mario bros) - cocoa brovaz

Ludacris Feat. Chris Brown & Sean Garrett “What Them Girls Like”

Allegedly the first official single off Luda's forthcoming album.

Definitely a club hit, especially with the ladies....

"What Them Girls Like" (Clean Version)
"What Them Girls Like" (Dirty Version)

Joey Honey x Squincy Jones "Altered Beast" (Download)

Squincy Jones comes through with this sick riddim, which flips a snap beat and some nice samples from the legendary Sega Mega Drive (or Genesis, depending on where you're from) game Altered Beast.
