Fused Forces - Remain Unlabeled (Mixed By DJ Cable)

After much anticipation, Fused Forces have finally released their CD Remain Unlabeled, which has been mixed by yours truly!

Comprising of 14 tracks in total, the album sports a serious selection of collaborations with artists such as Sean Price, Joker Starr, Central Spillz, M.I.K, Riko, S-Dot (to name a few), and showcases both their Hip Hop and Grime/Dubstep productions.

You can check out the album snippets below:

I'd had a lot of these tracks on Dub for a good couple of years, so when I was approached by Ad and Dan to help put the CD together I was more than happy to oblige.

The mix itself was actually completed nearly a year ago, whilst planning had started back in late 2011....We just spent a lot of time afterwards tweaking the track arrangement, replacing songs with better versions of the mixdown, and then getting the artwork sorted.

The tracks are now available to purchase digitally and indivivdually from Junodownload, Boomkat, iTunes, Amazon, Play, and all other good digital outlets, whilst the CD version (mixed by me) can be purchased....Seek and ye shall find!

Massive thanks to Fused Forces for letting me be a part of the project; I hope you all enjoy the mix/tracks. Go buy them if you're feeling them!

Caspa - Check Yourself!

Free music courtesy of the Dub Police head honcho. Whilst the 2nd drop is a bit too noisy for me, I'm definitely digging that wonky saw wave in the first section. This will definitely bang on a loud system.

Datsik's Firepower Tour

Check this for a sneak preview of Datsik's Vortex Booth, which he'll be taking on tour over the next few months. With all the crazy production that's going into EDM shows these days, we're bound to see some next level stage shows.

More info on the booth itself here.

The New Step (Early Dubstep & Grime Documentary) (2003)

One of the posters over at Grime Forum kindly threw this up on Youtube the other day.

Originally aired in 2003 on BBC Radio 1, and featuring interviews from Plastician, Oris Jay and even a then 17 year old Benga, it gives an interesting insight into the birth of 8 bar/early Grime and Dubstep. Highlights also include challenging Benga to make an 8 bar riddim in 10 minutes on Music 2000 for the Sony Playstation.

It's great to look back on the scene in 2003, and to see how it's developed over the past 10 years.

DCult - The MIG x FKOF EP

Running a digital label can be a lot of hard work, especially when you know it's a rarity that you'll see money off the first couple of releases. However one thing that I'm proud of with the Triangulum label is putting out music from artists who are on the rise, and who I firmly believe will blow up in the near future.

DCult is one of those artists.

Recently he's been working closely with Demon's M.UD. imprint, putting out a solid series of releases. Most recently, his Deadly Hands of Shang Chi EP dropped, which is nothing short of amazing.

Not content with churning out quality music for Demon, he's recently dropped a free EP for Bass Music blogs Fat Kid On Fire and Make It Good, consisting of three previously-unreleased tracks.

If you like your Dubstep dark, sparse, and weighty, then look no further. Massive shouts to M.U.D. for pushing the scene forward at a time where everyone is either making the noisiest stuff possible, or making tunes so minimal that they're sending the ravers to sleep.

You can listen to the tunes in the player above, and also download them for free.

DJ Cable x 2Bop Mixtape

Here's my collaboration with South African clothing company 2Bop, who are arguably one of the dopest independent streetwear brands out there right now. Given that I have extended family out in SA, I thought it'd be great to link up with them.

Spanning from Hip Hop, to House, Garage, Grime, Miami Bass, and even video game soundtracks, the mixtape is made up of 2Bop's influences over the last 20 years, along with some of my personal favourites, past and present.

I hope you enjoy the mix!

Benga "I Will Never Change" (Music Video)

Here are the latest visuals from Benga, from his forthcoming tune “I Will Never Change.” The stop motion-esque video makes use of 960 pieces of vinyl to create a straightforward and creative way to let the music speak for itself and create a mirrored image of the digital waveform.

“I Will Never Change” also serves as an official teaser for Benga’s forthcoming album Chapter 2, which is due out on Columbia later this year.

Directed by Us, the same guys behind Wiley's "Numbers In Action" music video.

DJ Cable x For Love & Money Mix

Shouts to Dinesh over at For Love And Money for getting me to do a guest mix for the relaunch of his site.

If you're not up on the brand, they stock some awesome hand-printed garms and all other goodness. Make sure you stop by the online store and purchase something.

Anyhow, back to the mix. I went with a mixture of 808/Garagey vibes, along with some Grime and Hip Hop for good measure. Enjoy!

Traktor Kontrol F1 Demo - Shiftee & Greg Nice (Video)

World-renowned sandwich critic and Louis Theroux lookalike DJ Shiftee comes through with yet another awesome demo video for Native Instruments, showcasing the new Kontrol F1

The blurb:

Traktor Kontrol F1 is the definitive controller for the new Remix Decks™ in the included Traktor Pro 2.5 software. In stores May 30th, the F1 blurs the lines between DJing and live performance - the perfect addition to any Traktor-based setup.

Light up your DJ sets with 16 multi-color LED pads, and launch clips in a perfectly intuitive, DJ-centric way, switching between up to 64 tracks, loops and one-shot samples on each Remix Deck.

The second video in our series on different ways to use the F1 shows the Remix Decks working hand-in-hand with scratch techniques. Watch turntablist extraordinaire DJ Shiftee rock out with the multi-colored pads while old-school partisan Greg Nice has some fun on the mic.

BONUS! Here's another rundown of the Kontrol F1

Cypress Hill x Rusko "Roll It, Light It"

Great visuals, shame about the song.

Taken from the forthcoming Cypress X Rusko EP, which is due out in April.

DJ Cable - 2012 Valentines Mix

Yep, I'm back with another Valentines mix.

As I more or less exhausted all the love-themed Grime tunes in 2011, this year's mix is mainly Dubstep, with a nice helping of Juke/Booty Bass towards the end. It also wouldn't be a Valentines mix without some misogyny from Project Pat either.

Overall, a mixture of different flavours here to get you in the mood for some sexy time.

Kicking off the show for the new year, Dev79 from Slit Jockey Records provided me with a sick guest mix, whilst I played out my 2011 AD Hip Hop mix in the 2nd hour.

DJ Shiftee's "Slaughterhouse" Routine (Video)

Shiftee comes through with another classic routine.

In his words:

This is a routine I put together for my recent appearance on the legendary Rinse FM (big shouts to DJ Wonder for having me on!). It's meant to show my softer side. Yes, you may know me for my manly feats of strength and untapped primal aggression on delicatessen waiting lines. When you think Shiftee, you probably think of a brute force who opens jars, lifts heavy boxes, and attends the gym regularly (big shouts to my trainer Sergi for keeping me toned!).

But there's more to me. I take long walks on the beach. I gaze wistfully at setting suns and old people. I once watched a trailer for The Notebook and felt something deep inside (it was indigestion, but still). Please watch the following video, and get to know the real me.

-- Forever Yours, Shiftee

Badklaat "Gully"

New sub-heavy goodness from Badklaat, which should see a release in the not too distant future.

Roska "480BC"

Forthcoming on Tectonic.

True Tiger @ Camden Barfly Tonight!

...so I'm supporting True Tiger's first ever live show tonight at Camden Barfly. I'll be spinning tunes from 8pm-9pm.

Dubstep/Grime/Hip Hop/Bass and all that good stuff.

RoxXxan - Thunder Bay (Freestyle)

We all know that RoxXxan is a beast on the mic, so it came as no surprise that she killed it on this freestyle. Extra kudos for using a Hudson Mohawke beat too!

Keep an eye out for her mixtape, 'Prepare 4When I Land', which is dropping sometime soon.

P.S. You can catch me DJ-ing for RoxXxan on Example's UK Tour at the following dates:

12th December - Swindon
13th December - Cambridge
15th December - Nottingham

If you're at any of the shows, come and say hi.
