Shiftee comes through with another classic routine.

In his words:

This is a routine I put together for my recent appearance on the legendary Rinse FM (big shouts to DJ Wonder for having me on!). It's meant to show my softer side. Yes, you may know me for my manly feats of strength and untapped primal aggression on delicatessen waiting lines. When you think Shiftee, you probably think of a brute force who opens jars, lifts heavy boxes, and attends the gym regularly (big shouts to my trainer Sergi for keeping me toned!).

But there's more to me. I take long walks on the beach. I gaze wistfully at setting suns and old people. I once watched a trailer for The Notebook and felt something deep inside (it was indigestion, but still). Please watch the following video, and get to know the real me.

DJ Cable Vs. Denon MC3000 (Video)

...so the guys over at Denon Europe asked me to test out their new 2 channel MIDI controller, the MC3000, and put together a routine for their new promo video....

It's very much a live club set, which incorporates a bit of live remixing on the spot.

The routine starts with a mixtape-style intro over the (now-classic) Grime instrumental "Wooo Riddim".

I then build up a composition using a series of custom loops and one shots (some of which I've made myself), alongside a refix I've made of Roska's "Jackpot", and then mess about with the effects. After that, I then mix in the intro to Redlight's "Stupid", and trigger a bass sample (from that tune), manipulating it using the Filter LFO effect.

Main features covered include:

multi deck mixing
cue point juggling
group effects (assigning more than one deck to an effects group)
making use of the volume faders for all 4 decks

JFB Vs. Switch - Fatboy Slim Dubstep Routine

Check out this sick routine from DMC Champions JFB and Switch, who utilise Denon's DN-HC1000S MIDI controller and the effects on the DN-X600 mixer to create a dope live remix of Fatboy Slim's "Right Here, Right Now".

Also, congrats to JFB, who was recently crowned 2011 DMC UK Champion back in July. He'll be representing the UK at the World Finals on October 7th at the IndigO2 (O2 Arena, London).

DJ Cable - Benga & Coki Routine

If you've been coming to some of the Yasmin shows, you may have seen me do this routine/showcase halfway through our set.

DJ Blu using "The Bridge" (Video)

2010 Japanese DMC Champ DJ Blu utilizes Scratch Live and Ableton's recent creation, throwing down a live remix of Travis Barker's "Can A Drummer Get Some".

Awesome use of scratch drumming, live recording and layering, and some mad stuff involving slowing the turntable down, matching the project tempo to it, and then throwing a beat juggle over the top.

Traktor Turntable Tricknology with DJ Shiftee (Video)

World-renowned DJ, sandwich critic and Harvard Math grad (yes, that's right) Shiftee is back with another awesome video, demonstrating the possibilities of Native Instruments' Traktor Scratch Pro, ultising their Maschine and X1 controllers.

The video sees him cutting up the bassline and acapella to Dead Prez' classic anthem Hip Hop over Caspa's Dub Warz. I'd go into more detail, but being the considerate person he is, Shiftee has also made a separate video explaining his routine...



Great stuff. He may be a 2x DMC World Champion, but I'd still kick his ass in a snack-based culinary battle, haha!
