Black EL Feat. El Prez & 6th Sense "Sunday Drive (Remix)"

Just spotted this over at Rock The Dub.

I've never heard of Black EL before, but this joint is sick! Production has definitely got a Cool Kids-esque vibe; definitely one to burn onto CD for your ride.

The original version of this featured on the Color Commentary album, which (if you slept on it like me) you should download immediately.

Knowledge Seba Remix Competition

Calling all producers, here's a remix competition that should be of interest to you...

Seba, Ableton, SoundCloud and Knowledge Magazine have joined forces for an exclusive remix competition of Seba's Painted Sky track, which came out on his own Secret Operations label in 2010.

Swedish producer Seba has established a reputation as one of the finest purveyors of quality drum & bass over a distinguished career stretching back over 15 years. From his early tracks on LTJ Bukem’s ground-breaking label Good Looking Records, to his more recent work across iconic labels such as Metalheadz, Soul:r and Hospital, his music has retained a timeless appeal and brings together beats and bass in classic yet inimitable style.

In his words:

"I would like to hear something new coming out of this track, but still keeping the same vibe. Keep it musical. It doesn't matter if it's heavy or dark or uplifting. The original track is quite musical, so I'd expect any remix of it to be the same."

The winning remix will receive Ableton Suite 8 (download) and a SoundCloud Pro Plus account, second place will win Ableton Live 8 (download) and a SoundCloud Lite account and the third runner-up takes home Ableton Live Intro (download) and a SoundCloud Lite account.

Download the stems here and get to work! The closing date is midnight on Sunday March 27th 2011

Ghetts "Who's On The Panel" (Music Video)

In the aftermath of last weeks' Top Ten MC List by MTV UK, which seemed to cause a lot of commotion on Twitter, Ghetts has responded with this track.

I'm pretty surprised that JME didn't make the top 10, but for Ghetts to say that no-one had heard of P Money until he clashed him? Sorry mate, that's a bit of a sweeping statement to make.

Who do you think should have made the Top 10?

Tim & Barry - Beat This (SE1 EP2) with Noisses

Tim and Barry are back with a new video series called "Beat This", where they challenge some of UK's Dubstep/Grime/Funky producers to create a hot beat within 10 minutes. In this episode, they visit my boy Noisses, who creates what looks to be the basis for a dope Dubstep tune.

Motive also catches up with him for a chat about his influences, his favourite bits of production kit, and what's in store for 2011.

If you like Noisses' beat, then be sure to give it a vote out of 10 in the Youtube comments

BONUS! Here's episode 1, featuring Swindle:

Rusko's thoughts on "Brostep"

Big up to Rusko for saying what a lot of people within the scene are thinking right now.

My opinion - If certain labels/DJs/journalists actually started exercising a lot more quality control, we wouldn't be having to deal with noisy crap. Don't get me wrong, my taste in Dubstep is really varied, and I love a lot of jump up tunes, but it really has gone too far.

Rant over; back to our regular programming.

Yasmin "Finish Line" (Preview)

Produced by Labrinth, this is the 2nd single from Yasmin, which sees her flow over a heavy, head-nodder of a beat.

P.S. You can catch her on tour next month (with me DJ-ing), supporting Chase & Status. Get your tickets now!

Raider "When You Hear This One" (Music Video)

Big up to Stay Fresh, who are showing no signs of slowing down for 2011.

Stunna Mane "From Mississippi To Mars" (Mixed by DJ Cable)

It's been a while since I hit you with something Thugstep-related, so here goes.

The seeds for this tape were planted early December of 2010, with a phone convo between DJ Nappy and Stunna Mane. A mutual respect for the hustle was formed, and a tentative release of "NBA All-Star Weekend 2011" was discussed.

What started out as a four-track remix EP turned into a full Thugstep album, with DJ Nappy, myself, and DJ Hipnotikk digging into our digital crates and crafting some dubstep refixes to Stunna's acapellas.

The fact that an actual artist wanted us to make a refix album/mixtape says a lot. Massive shouts to everyone who has supported the Thugstep movement so far... It can only get bigger and better from here. Enjoy!

Nike SB Dunk High Premium ‘Liberty’

Just recently spotted these online (shows how much I check for Nike SBs these days)...I'm in need of some brighter sneakers for the Spring/Summer seasons....

Based on the iconic New York landmark, the Statue of Liberty, these sneakers feaute a seagrass leather upper that will eventually fade to a copper color once scuffed or scratch, along with a cream midsole and grey outsole.

A picture of the Statue of Liberty also appears on the shoes insoles, as well as on the shoes tongue tag, replacing the Nike SB logo.

Now available at select Nike SB retailers worldwide.

DJ Cable - 2011 Valentines Mix

So, here's a quick mix that I put together for this year's Valentines Day.

Last year, DJ Hotpoint & I brought you Heavy Petting - It was our definitive collection of Slow Jams. Rather than repeat the same formula, this time around I've selected a bunch of love-themed Dubstep & Grime tunes (yes, they do exist!), alongside a healthy dose of misogynistic Hip Hop & Booty Bass in the latter half of the mix, plus a cheeky bootleg, and some material that's forthcoming on Triangulum!

The result? A mish mash of everything from JME, to Wiley, Three 6 Mafia, Ludacris, Snoop Dogg, DJ Assault, Necro, Dizzee Rascal, Borgore, Ruckspin, Chromeo and more!

Che Grand x Joker "Gully Brook Lane Bad Man"

Been meaning to post this for a few days...

Apparently Che Grand got hooked on Joker's tunes after hearing Elucid's My Mayor Is A Billionaire (taken from his Sub Bass Diet LP) a while back. It's great to see more US-based artists embracing Dubstep, and spitting proper verses!

Taken from from his upcoming project ZFTP VIII: Uche The Great.

Wednesday 2 February 2011

So I started up a digital label...

As a new year dawns, so do new projects. After months of quiet planning, research, and a few hundred emails, I'm proud announce the launch of my label Triangulum Recordings.

Specialising in the deeper/darker/purple side of Dubstep, instrumental Grime and other experimental music around the 140 BPM region, Triangulum is a digital label that aims to bring you the best forward-thinking electronic music this side of the galaxy; so expect a healthy mixture of dark riddims, bouncy riddims, and stuff that's downright weird, wonky and wonderful.

The 001 will be out in early/mid March, featuring music from Fused Forces and myself, and an exciting up-and-coming producer by the name of DCult, whose tracks have received recent support from Dubstep royalty such as Youngsta (Rinse FM) and Cyrus (Random Trio). Snippets are up on the Soundcloud page now.

Fused Forces & DJ Cable - Yoshimitsu / DCult - Drunken Master (TR001) by triangulum

Whilst the website is being sorted, you can follow Triangulum on Twitter, or become a fan on Facebook for regular updates.

Lastly, to all the bloggers/journalists out there, I'm currently available for guest mixes and interviews if you're interested in knowing more. Hit me up and I'll send over the relevant info. I'll also be announcing more details of the first few releases this month.

I'm excited to see where this new venture takes me.
