Rusko's thoughts on "Brostep"

Big up to Rusko for saying what a lot of people within the scene are thinking right now.

My opinion - If certain labels/DJs/journalists actually started exercising a lot more quality control, we wouldn't be having to deal with noisy crap. Don't get me wrong, my taste in Dubstep is really varied, and I love a lot of jump up tunes, but it really has gone too far.

Rant over; back to our regular programming.

One of the reasons why I don't watch Reality TV...

Appalling isn't the word...

Why anyone would tune in to watch a homosexual version of the Super Mario Bros jump around like twats, and butcher an equally shit tune by Rick Martin is beyond me...I heard these guys got a lot of hate on the internet, and now I can see why. The sooner this show gets the fuck off my TV screen, the better...

Saying that, at least Simon Cowell tells it how it is.

Get off the Bandwagon: House Music

NOTE: I'm not going to single out anyone in particular. If this applies to you...well...it obviously applies to you!

It's been a while since I've had a good rant on here. I would normally ignore it all and keep doing my own thing when it comes to bandwagons and the people that jump on it. However as each day goes by, I see more and more people jumping on the whole House thing, and to be honest, it really annoys me.

Unless you've been living under a rock for the past 12-18 months, "Funky" or "UK Funky" has taken the industry by storm. In some ways it's great, as record labels are now investing more in UK artists in general, and also taking notice of new talent. With an official compilation out now, and a couple of others on the way, it looks set to become the soundtrack to most people's summers. Although on the other hand, the constant bombardment of skanking tunes, the sheer amount of substandard product, and the fact that everyman and his dog is trying to make (and DJ) Funky has saturated the scene something silly, leaving us with a watered down pile of crap to sift through when it comes to finding new music.

K.I.G. & Gracious K both came with something original, and it worked well. They're good tracks. Now everyone thinks they can hijack someone's beat and come up with a dance that makes you look like a twat.

Crazy Cousinz, Attacca Pesante, Donaeo, Lil Silva, Ill Blu, Geeneus have all put out some great music. Now every bedroom DJ thinks they can do the same with a cracked copy of Fruityloops...and then put on crap event after crap event which I seem to get a million invites for on Facebook EVERY DAY.

However, what pisses me off the most is the DJs that all of a sudden dropped whatever they were normally spinning, in order to cash in on the genre and get try to get more bookings. Most of these people had no love (or knowledge) for House music at the start, so why pretend?

They're excuse? "Oh I've always been into House man, I'm now just trying to find my own sound." Are you bollocks! The main reason why you're spinning House music is mainly because of the popularity of Funky. So you've bought a few other joints off Beatport or Juno (or most likely downloaded from blogspots), and read up on what's hot on few forums...congratu-fuckin-lations, you're such a big boy/big gal House DJ.

I love it how they then act like they've spinning the genre for time, and strut around like they're some kind of House music connoisseur. Aside from the Electro & "Gutter/Wobble" House which I love, this Funky/Soulful/Deep thing isn't really for me. Saying that, I do play the bigger Funky tunes in some venues, because...well...that's my job as a DJ: to entertain and keep the crowd moving.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm all for exploring and discovering new genres and artists (you all know I play/mash many styles together), and new avenues with DJ-ing (Video-SL, Ableton Live, etc), but when you completely switch up your style just to cash in on the latest trend, that's some weak shit. Some fake shit, in fact.

I hate to think what the biters will latch onto next once the Funky hype dies off. I pray it's not Dubstep.

Anyways, if you're reading this, and I've offended you, I really couldn't care less. I'll keep doing my own thing while you can all ride the wagon 'til it breaks down.

Until then, get some originality.

Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen Game Trailer (Video)

I finally went to see "Revenge Of The Fallen" the other night. The CGI, fight scenes and effects were awesome...Just a shame the storyline, script and acting was a pile of shit. They said there was gonna be a lot more banter between Starscream and Megatron...we only get a couple of short conversations between the two...

I really hope the game isn't as shit as the film...

Other things worth ranting about:

Soundwave was voiced by Frank Welker in the film, which is cool. Although they didn't bother to put his voice through a vocoder to get that classsic Soundwave voice...As a result, he just sounded like a robot version of Dr. Claw from "Inspector Gadget", which sucked.

Why Arcee was made up of three motorcycles, I have no idea...and don't even get me started on The Twins...

They brought megatron back, but couldn't even find a way to bring Jazz back to life? Parr!

The Nando's Rap (Video)

Aapparently it's an internal video to promote their new chicken wraps to staff...How this supposed to be 'funny' or 'cool', I have no idea...The fact that they have punchlines such as"more raps than PM Dawn" says it all really!

Still, Nandos >>>>> most other chicken-based restaurants/outlets.

Cable's Macbook Dilemma

Apologies for the lack of postage up on here, but my beloved Macbook decided to cease functioning on Wednesday night, leaving me to run around like a headless chicken trying to get it sorted (read: buy another fucking laptop) for my gigs this weekend.

As soon as I'm back up online I'll give you the full rundown of my mini Macbook adventure...in the meantime, please pour out some liqour for the above laptop. Bad times!

Do The "Ringa Roses" Skank (Video)

This gets the gasface. Swagger jacking a sick beat (Footsteps' "Green Light") is okay, provided you do something dope with it. And this is far from dope...

I gotta agree with Mistajam, this shit's now become the new line dancing. I guess everyone now wants that "Head, Shoulders, Knees & Toes" money...

Dizzee Rascal Interview on Newsnight (Video)

So Jeremy Paxman, best known for going after Politicians on Newsnight, (and also presenting University Challenge) had Dizzee Rascal as guest on last night's show...

Whilst he can be entertaining when he goes in (pause) on certain guests....He gets the gasface though for asking Dizzee Rascal "Do you consider yourself to be British?"

This interview's recently been slammed on Facebook, with a lot people saying that Dizzee was a poor representation of black people in the UK, and that the BBC should have either got Lewis Hamilton, Bashy (who would have been an interesting interview), or a back politician instead...Ironically enough, a black politician was next to him on screen....

Dizzee wasn't the most eloquent interviewee, but at least he gave an honest answer, rather than long, drawn out amibiguous replies that most politicians who are invited on the show tend to give...To say he's a poor role model is an injustice, considering he's a platinum-selling artist, has achieved a UK no. 1 without major label backing, and has also done his fair share of chairty work too....

Consequence Goes At Kid Cudi (Allegedly)

"No-one on the corner got swagger like Cons....Swagger like...." etc....

So Cons is upset about the way certain hipster types are fronting...As Semtex points out, it can't be Cudi, seeing as they're both on G.O.O.D. Music. Maybe it's Jay Electronica...But in all fairness, do we really care?

Either way, it looks like a crap excuse for Cons to tell us all how doesn't take the subway, how many web hits he's had, and how much he drops on sneakers....

All you hipsters have been warned!

ALIFE Shelltoe

So as you are all aware, ALIFE sneakers are known for their weird and wonderful colours, materials, and so forth...

Some are nice, and some are just plain crap....These fall under the "crap" category - they just simply do not work...I mean, they look like a cheap Adidas Shelltoe rip-off, and that aqua model is just plain hideous.

You lost with these, ALIFE.

Facebook Deleted Me!!!

So I went to sign in earlier this evening, and was informed that my account has been "disabled"....which basically means they've deleted my ass (the reason is still unknown) from Facebook....

Damn! So I've had to start up again, and get on re-adding all my past contacts....Shame really, as I had accumulated a solid fanbase, and was getting a number of bookings through my profile....

Now, I use this just like any other DJ as a means to promote myself, my mixtapes, music and to also meet new people and keep in touch with old school/college/uni friends....I'm hardly a spam bot, so I don't see what the problem was...

Anyhow, if you were on my list, or if you wish to add me, click here.

I'm now on there as "Chris Deejay Cable" - due to a clamp down on nicknames/aliases.

Nike SB June 2008 releases

I used to love Nike SBs. Back when they brought out shoes like the 'Bisons', 'Unlucky 13s' & 'Homers' - right up until after they released the 'Tiffany' model they were dope.

Now most of them are either bland, uninspiring colourways, or just hideous monstrosities ('3 Bears Pack', anyone?).

The only dope shoe I've seen in the June 2008 release is this Blazer SB (European exclusive too).

Aurora Blue/Varsity Maize

Colors by Danijel Todorovic, Sam Barrat, and Dave Dixon

Luckliy, the Blazer isn't a shoe that Nike has done to death with a million and one colourways and materials (unlike the Dunk or the AF1). Hopefully it'll stay that way.

Hypebeast has the full list of June releases here.

Mondays......oh, and some music too....

Wow, only 2pm GMT....Mondays sure drag on....

Had to take my car to the local Honda dealer to sort out my wing mirror, after some degenerate decided to kick it off the other week. Thanks for that....

Last week was nice and warm. I actually managed to rock a T-shirt over here and not get cold....and then it snowed yesterday and has done for most of today.....isn't the UK wonderful?

Also, that Akai MPD32 isn't out until the end of the month - Crap....

Apart from that, It's looking to be a dope month for music. My boy Khal from Rock The Dub put up a whole heap of goodies on Friday for you to check out. I'm not going to list them individually because it'll take me till next week, but you can grab them all here.

Weekly Mix will be up soon though - hold tight!
