DJ Cable - 2013 AD (Hip Hop Mix)

..so once again, it's that time of the year where I present my annual Hip Hop round up. This year, it's a 2 hour special...

Once again, it's been another interesting and exciting year, with the standard ratchet club tracks, to the whole EDM/Twerk craze, the fresh new music emerging from the West Coast, plus a load of dope 90's influenced cuts, as well as great music from the UK.

Yes, some of the more obvious club tracks are not on the mix, but it's not about putting together a generic selection of the same club tracks that every other DJ is rinsing... As a result, there's definitely something for everyone on this mixtape. Big ups to Lazlow for the introduction as well.

Honorable mentions go to Giggs, J Spades, ItsNate, Mac Miller, CJ Fly, Riff Raff, Logic, Eminem, Flatbush Zombies, Run The Jewels, Trae Da Truth, Black Milk and Freddie Gibbs. It's a shame I couldn't fit you all in to this mix.

Anyhow, whether you're on the move, chilling at home, or cruising the streets of Los Santos in your Truffade Adder, I hope you enjoy this mixtape.

Thanks for listening/downloading, and feel free to leave your comments. Big up.

Sampha - Too Much (DJ Cable Re-Rub)

Sampha's "Too Much" is definitely one of the most beautiful pieces of music I've heard in a long while. Drake did a pretty good job of sampling it for his album, but the original version with just the piano is incredibly haunting.

I wanted to make it more DJ-friendly, but keep the same, stripped back vibe, so here's my edit of this amazing track.

Enjoy.

Drake x Wu-Tang "Pound Cake" (DJ Cable Edit)

Damn, it's been a minute since I updated this blog....

I guess with Facebook, Twitter, Soundcloud and the mailouts, I haven't really needed to... If anything, this blog now serves as a main contact page, with all the relevant links.

But anyhow, I'll still be putting up music on here from time to time.

After hearing Pound Cake, and noticing the Wu-Tang reference, I thought I'd put this blend, using the Wu-Tang acapella.

Free download as well, so go forth and use it in your DJ sets...

P.S. I used Paintbrush for Mac to make the artwork. Don't judge me.

DJ Cable x Do Androids Dance Present: Wiley - The Steps Mix

I'm amazed that after all this time, no-one has actually put together a full mixed version of Wiley's Step freestyles.

After chatting to Khal over at Do Androids Dance we both decided it'd be a good idea to present the Godfather of Grime's finest work from the past 12 months in a mixed format for you to enjoy in one sitting.

They're not in numerical order, as that would be boring...plus, there would be a load of key clashing going on. Anyway, sit back and enjoy, and press that download button.

Dj Elski - Old Skool House & Garage Summer Mix 2013

One thing that is synonymous with Summer in the UK is Garage music. For me, and a lot of people in their twenties, it's one of those genres that has the ultimate nostalgia factor. Therefore, I'm always happy to find an excuse to post a Garage mix on the blog.

Massive props to DJ Elski for putting together a whopping 2 hour mix of 90's classic House & Garage from the likes of Todd Edwards, Tuff Jam, Anthill Mob, Roy Davis Jnr, 4th Measure Man and a whole lot more.

Whilst the UKG scene has always thrived, it's also seen somewhat of a resurgence in the past couple of years from labels such as L2S, the revival of Public Demand, and artists such as Mike Delinquent, Artful Dodger and Disclosure. I have a feeling that once the "Deep House" craze wears off, we'll be seeing a lot more Garage creeping into clubland.

Anyhow, check out the mix below, and be sure to drop DJ Elski a tweet if you're feeling it.

Cartridge EP Out Now!!!

Easy now, just a quick post to let you all know that debut release Cartridge is out now on Slit Jockey Records.

For those who have following me for a while, you'll know that I'm a massive fan of both video games and Grime music, so it seemed natural for me to somehow combine the two (in my own weird way).

The EP also features a sick vocal version from Virus Syndicate's Goldfinger, which includes a few cheeky references to some classic games (we keep it dancefloor friendly and geek friendly at the same damn time), as well as the acapella, and a Devil Mix as a homage to all the early Wiley/Eski tunes.

You can purchase it through the usual outlets: Junodownload, Boomkat, Beatport, iTunes & Bleep to name a few.

Thanks to everyone who's supported it so far. More music to come real soon!

Tinie Tempah - Trampoline

...so I'm finally back with some blog posts...

After what seems like a lifetime, Tinie Tempah is back with some new music...I heard this on Mistajam's show last night, and pretty much lost my mind. This beat is ridiculous...

It's the first single taken from Tinie's long-awaited sophomore album Demonstration, which is due out in September.

Produced by Diplo and featuring 2 Chainz, it's safe to say that this will be an instant club smash. You'll be able to purchase Trampoline from 4th August, but for now, here's the video.

Kanye West - New Slaves (DJ Cable Remix)

As you all know, Yeezus dropped last week.

I'm still pretty undecided about the album; there are only 4 tracks that I really like in total...one of them being New Slaves...and being the person that I am, I decided to give it a little makeover for the club.

Download it for free, leave a comment, and all that stuff below!

I also have to give a massive shout out to my Canadian homies Thugli, who have cooked up a sick remix of Send It Up - Go check out their remix after you've downloaded mine!

TS7 "Heartlight" (DJ Cable 'Back To 93' Remix)

Just a quick post to let you all know that my remix of TS7's Heartlight is now available to purchase from all good digital outlets!

I made this back in February after cheekily asking TS7 if I could remix his tune. Rather than go down the usual Trap and Grime route as I have done in my previous remixes, I decided to keep with the 90's vibe of the original version, and give it a warehouse/rave feel, complete with Amens, breaks, and few whistles.

I hope you like the remix; please feel free to leave your comments in the Soundcloud player below!

The League Presents: Essential Warm Up Vol. 2 (Mixed By DJ Cable)

We're back with the second installment of the Essential Warm Up series! Massive thanks to everyone who downloaded the first volume; I'm hearing that a lot of DJs found it beneficial, which is great to hear.

Keeping with the same musical format, I've crafted the finest selection of 2000's Hip Hop and R&B to make your working lives that little bit easier for that 11pm-12am warm up slot.

As usual, the mix has minimal tags, so it's club-friendly. We'll be moving into other genres soon, with other League members contributing to the series.

Whether you want something to help kickstart your night, or simply listen to whilst you're getting ready to go out, we've got you covered!

Bonus! Here's the video version of Volume Two!

Dizzee Rascal - Goin' Crazy (DJ Cable Remix)

So I recently cooked up a Trap remix for Dizzee Rascal's forthcoming single, which features Robbie Williams. Definitely had fun putting this one together...

Props to Mistajam for playing it all this week on his BBC Radio 1 & 1Xtra shows too!

DJ Cable - Backseat Anthem

To celebrate hitting 100,000 Soundcloud plays, I've uploaded a bootleg of Kendrick Lamar's Backseat Freestyle. I loved the original version, but thought it'd be dope to flip the vocal sample, add a few more 808 drums, and beef it up a notch for the club.

Originally this was only going to be one of those DJ tools that you would only hear me play in rave, but I thought I'd be generous and share it with you all. Download it now!

Thanks for the support as always, big up.

P.S. Shouts to Glen Stone for the artwork too!

Speakerbox & Do Androids Dance Present: Jungle Trap

Here's a new remix EP that I've put together with my good friends DECiBEL and Spooky, in association with Mistajam's Speakerbox and Do Androids Dance.

The project originally came about when DECiBEL and I were joking about sub genres...somehow we got on to the subject of Jungle, and decided it'd be fun to update some of our favourite tunes with a Trap flavour. We made a few edits, then Spooky then appeared with his awesome Body Snatch remix. We all joined forces and the rest is history!

Here's the blurb:

"If you don’t know by now, Do Androids Dance is particularly fond of remixes. The art of the remix, where you’re putting your own spin on established material, when done correctly, is a magnificent thing. Damn-near life changing. One of the best types of remixes, obviously, is when you flip one particular style of music into another, especially when it’s a sound that lends itself to awesome interpretation.

DAD is also fond of the days of jungle… you know, the sound of drum & bass before it was drum & bass. So when we heard that DECiBEL, DJ Cable, and Spooky had been working on transporting jungle tracks into a trap state of mind? We’re all into it. Brillz already showed ushow well an amen can work in a trap track, but this is going much, much deeper. You’ve got certified classics from DJ SS, Shy FX, and Jo (among others) being thrown into the 808-heavy sound of now, effortlessly. If you’re of the crowd that remembers when these jungle cuts were the talk of the town and needed some familiar turn-up without all of the 'Damn son where'd you find this', then Jungle Trap is all yours, free of charge."

The League Presents: Essential Warm Up Vol. 1 (Mixed by DJ Cable)

Here's a new mixtape series that I've started with my crew, The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen, which should make DJs lives' a lot easier!

DJ-ing can be a tough job sometimes, especially when you're doing those marathon 4 hour sets, which is why we at The League have launched this dope series of warm up mixes so you can relax for the first hour of your club night!

All mixes have minimal tags, and are guaranteed to get your party started correctly... Subsequent volumes will move into other genres, so all you Open Format DJs will benefit from this. To kick things off, I've gone in with a selection of early 2000's Hip Hop & R&B.

Whether you want something to help kickstart your night, or simply listen to whilst you're getting ready to go out, we've got you covered!

Download / Mirror

BONUS! Here's the video version for you to watch (and download).

Slighty different tracklist. Same great taste.

Young Mind "Femme Don" - OUT NOW!

Easy people, just a quick one to let you know that there is a new release is now out on my label, Triangulum.

Moving into Trap territory, I've released two tracks from Young Mind, aka Kavsrave.

Having already seen support from a "who's who" list of DJs within the Bass scene -- Girl Unit, Gemmy, Mary Anne Hobbs, Starkey, Nero, Skream, Bok Bok, and most recently Hudson Mohawke and Rustie (the latter even featured one of his tracks in his Radio 1 Essential Mix) -- The artist formerly known as Kavsrave is quickly becoming one of the UK scene's brightest talents, especially with his recent journey into Trap/Electronic R&B.

Not content with just doing a guest mix for Mary Anne Hobbs' radio show, DJ-ing at one of Channel 4's infamous "Skins" parties, and constantly receive rave reviews from publications such as Fact Mag & Mixmag, he was even commissioned to write a song for the Hollywood blockbuster "Black Swan", titled "Illicit Dreaming". That's a certified boss move right there, which is why I had to snap him up for a release.

Blurring the boundaries between Trap & R&B, he's come with two rugged, yet melodic tunes; both of which can easily pass a Ciara instrumental, and wouldn't sound out of place in either an R&B rave of a warehouse rave.

Remix duties come courtesy of Mr. Mitch & DECiBEL, who take the energy level and multiply it by 1,000 trillion.

If you're a fan of TNGHT, Rustie, S-Type, Flosstradamus and Baauer, then get up on this.

It's now available to purchase from Junodownload, Trackitdown, Boomkat, Beatport, iTunes and all other good digital spots!

DJ Cable - Juicy J Video Mix

After a very long hiatus, I'm back with another Video Mixtape.

It's taken a while to source decent content, and to get fully acquainted with MixEmergency, but I'm now in a position to put out regular video mixes for you guys.

This time around, I've gone in with 75 minutes' worth of Juicy J tunes for your eyes/ears. Some hood videos, some of his classic joints, plus some bizarre stuff including that hilarious Nardwuar interview.

I'm still experimenting with file formats and bit rates, as I want to be able to provide quality downloads, however if anyone would like a copy of this on DVD for free, please hit me up on the following address:

iwantadjcablecd [at] gmail [dot] com

Also, I'd like to apologise for the lack of posts recently. I've been locked away making tunes and playing out relentlessly for the past couple of months, and am only just now in a position to be able to be more pro-active with blogging and putting out free music/mixes for you guys.

Stick with me, as there will be some dope content coming soon over the next few months. Big up!

Fused Forces - Remain Unlabeled (Mixed By DJ Cable)

After much anticipation, Fused Forces have finally released their CD Remain Unlabeled, which has been mixed by yours truly!

Comprising of 14 tracks in total, the album sports a serious selection of collaborations with artists such as Sean Price, Joker Starr, Central Spillz, M.I.K, Riko, S-Dot (to name a few), and showcases both their Hip Hop and Grime/Dubstep productions.

You can check out the album snippets below:

I'd had a lot of these tracks on Dub for a good couple of years, so when I was approached by Ad and Dan to help put the CD together I was more than happy to oblige.

The mix itself was actually completed nearly a year ago, whilst planning had started back in late 2011....We just spent a lot of time afterwards tweaking the track arrangement, replacing songs with better versions of the mixdown, and then getting the artwork sorted.

The tracks are now available to purchase digitally and indivivdually from Junodownload, Boomkat, iTunes, Amazon, Play, and all other good digital outlets, whilst the CD version (mixed by me) can be purchased....Seek and ye shall find!

Massive thanks to Fused Forces for letting me be a part of the project; I hope you all enjoy the mix/tracks. Go buy them if you're feeling them!

My Gigs This Weekend....

I've been meaning to find the time to get back on here and start blogging more regularly, so I thought this would be the perfect excuse!

Tonight, you can catch me at Project Essex at Silk Road in Colchester. I'll be on from 1am.

Tomorrow, it's all about Supa Dupa Fly at Bloomsbury Bowling Lanes in London. I'll be doing an all-vinyl set for this one; I can't wait to dust off some classics.

Hopefully I'll see you at one of them!

Big up.

DJ Cable - 2013 Valentines Mix

It's that time of year again!

Rather than go down the whole Booty Bass and loved-up Dubstep/Grime route again, I've decided to do a Dilla-themed mix for 2013.

I've selected my favourite R&B and love-themed Hip Hop that were produced (and co-produced) by the late, great James Yancey, ranging from Eric Roberson, to Illa J, ATCQ, Slum village, D'Angelo and more!

There are no scratch routines, no juggles, and no mixtape intros....just a smooth mix from start to finish to get you and yours in the mood for Valentines Day.

Thanks for the support, big up.

Air Jordan III Black/Electric Green

I've always been more of a Jordan IV and V man to be honest, but this is a pretty clean colourway....

Apparently it's part of a night vision-themed NBA All-Star pack that also includes the Air Jordan I and the Air Jordan XX8, which is scheduled for a release on the 16th (this Saturday).

I may have to splash my cash!

So far, my 2013 shopping list is looking like this:

Jordan IV "Thunder"
Jordan V "Grape"
LeBron X "Cork"
LeBron X "Prism"
Air Max 1 x atmos "Animal Camo"

...and that's not even including SB's and the general release AM1's....Have I missed anything?

DJ Cable - BBC 1Xtra Guest Mixes for CJ Beatz!

"It's been a long time, I shouldn't have left you, without some DJ Cable mixes to listen to...."

Apologies for the lack of posts recently. I've been locked away in the studio working on music, as well as a number of mixtapes for clients such as The Candy Store, Universal, and a few others. There are some exciting things in the pipeline for this year.

Speaking of mixtapes, here are a couple that I recently put together for my good friend CJ Beatz on BBC 1Xtra.

First up, my New Year's Eve mix, which is straight up 90's/00's Dancehall. Something different I guess, but worth checking out. Lots of classic riddims in the mix such as Playground, Filthy, Buy Out, Bookshelf, and Up Close & Personal.

Lastly, here's my most recent mix, which aired on Monday night. 10 minutes' worth of bass-heavy goodness from the likes of Baauer, Flosstradamus, Dead Prez, A$AP Rocky, French Montana and Willy Moon.

I'll be doing my best to keep you all updated with pictures from touring this year, as well as regular posts. It's hard trying to maintain a blog these days, but be patient and stick with me; there are lots of good things to come this year :)
