Classic Tracks: The Outhere Brothers "Boom Boom Boom"

Yep, "Classic Tracks" has made a welcome return to le blog.

I'm not ashamed to admit it, I still get hyped up when "Boom Boom Boom" gets played in the club...This, after all, was the soundtrack to my youth...In fact, may even have to throw this into a mixtape at some point. No, I really mean it!

According to Wikipedia the video cost a mere $2 to make (you can see why), and spent 4 weeks at #1 in the UK, before inevitably losing out to Take That; which was more or less a regular occurrence for any artist during the 90s anyways...

Enjoy!

DJ AM @ WMC 2009 (Video)

Part 1

Had to pay tribute myself... Shouts to Juxtaposer for the previous article. DJ AM will be sorely missed; one of the illest mashup DJs of all time. A true legend.

BONUS! Travis Barker & DJ AM:

R.I.P. DJ AM

2009 - the year of the celebrity deaths. I don't know why, but this year has been a heavy one for celebrity fatalities. You would have to have been living under a rock to not know about Michael Jackson's death, all the famous footballers and actresses and you've got a pretty high celebrity death toll; now add to that one of the best DJs on the planet, DJ AM (who had already survived a horrific plane crash with Travis Barker last year).

His body was apparently found by police in his home in NYC. Cause of death is currently unknown as the story has only just broken and is still developing, but rumours are already abounding that it was the result of an overdose.

EDIT: According to TMZ, "drug paraphernalia was apparently found at the scene".

Whatever the cause of death, he will be sorely missed, an extremely talented DJ and by all accounts a genuinely safe guy.

Nardwuar Vs. Nas (Video)

What I like about Nardwuar is besides the crazy appearance and eccentric behaviour, the dude seriously does his research! This one with Nas is pretty cool to watch, although he almost loses his temper when asked about a Nas action figure, and also the J.J. Evans line from "Ether"...

The interview with Supernatural, however, has slightly better content (I never knew he battled MF Grimm back in the day). Not only is Supernat more talkative, but his also kicks an ill freestyle that is worth checking out.

Drake Feat. Kanye, Lil Wayne & Eminem "Forever" (No DJ)

One of the hottest collaborations this year for Hip Hop. Saying that, it's all about Eminem's verse...his flow on this is ridiculous! Just goes to prove that Marshall will outshine you if he guest appears on your record...Remember what happened on "Renegade"...

Apparently this is being remastered tomorrow, and will be released shortly afterwards...Until then, enjoy this untagged version.

DJ Cable "The Mash Down: Vol. 3"

EDIT: Mix has been re-upped!

So after a few months of waiting, the third installment of the "Mash Down" series is finally here for your listening pleasure! First up, thanks to everyone who supported and downloaded Volume 2. If you're new to the blog, or have simply missed out, you can still grab it HERE

This time around, I've gone in with a mixture of Dubstep, Grime, Bassline/UK Garage, and some Southern Hip Hop from the likes of Crissy Criss, High Rankin, Rusko, Joker, Emalkay, Ruff Squad, Tempz, Bonecrusher, David Banner and more. The selection is pretty upfront and aggressive (sprinkled with a couple of classic anthems too), as I wanted to make this bang from start to finish.

As usual, there are a few scratch sections here and there, plus a few double drops for good measure :)

DJ Cable "Never Scared Of Eastern Jams" (THUGSTEP Blend)

Here's a little something to keep you all happy before I drop "Mash Down Vol. 3" this coming Monday.

I'll be honest, I wasn't much of a fan of "Snoop Dogg Millionare". In my opinion, Snoop's flow was too lazy for Chase & Status' production. I stumbled upon the acapella of Bonecrusher's "Never Scared" whilst sorting out my crates, put 2 and 2 together, and decided to make a quick Thugstep blend...

Pete Wentz pretending to DJ (Video)

Dear Pete,

Please stick to making emo-pop songs for your teenage fanbase and leave us real DJs to do the job properly. NOT mime that shit badly over a mixtape.

You get the gasface.

Yours sincerely,

DJ Cable.

Jay-Z Feat. Rihanna & Kanye West

It took me a good few listens to properly get into this track, but I'm liking it. Admittedly, Rihanna's singing doesn't do it much justice, but Jay's on form, and Kanye delivers a good guest verse too.

Some quality pieces in this season's collection.

La Roux - I'm Not Your Toy (Jack Beats Remix)

I'm gonna come right out and say it. I don't like La Roux. I think it takes more than a lead singer that looks like an ugly Ron Weasley and a reluctance to accept that the 80s has been and gone to make good music. That said, I do like a lot of the remixes of La Roux's tracks. Skream's remix of In For The Kill is undoubtedly one of the biggest tracks of his career and is responsible for bringing dubstep well and truly into the mainstream (for better or worse...). Foamo's remixes are fantastic; all of them, but most notably Bulletproof in my opinion. Zinc's rework of Bulletproof was similarly impressive, along with a spate of remixes from markworthy producers such as DatA.

Here we have the latest addition to the La Roux remix family, a Jack Beats remix of forthcoming single I'm Not Your Toy. If you haven't come across Jack Beats yet (1/3 of Scratch Perverts and 1/2 of the Mixologists) you've been going to the wrong clubs. This remix is pretty typical of their sound; dark, synthy and wobbly. Enjoy

Bob Sinclar feat. Sugar Hill Gang - LaLa Song (Video)

I have three issues with this one.

A) Why the hell did no one tell me that Sugar Hill Gang were still alive?
lol I coulda told you that! *Cable*

B) Why are house DJ/Producers all starting to work with rappers (see also: Guetta & Akon - Sexy Bitch).

C) Why have they named this song after a god damn Teletubby?

Vote for DJ Cable in the "Vice x Grolsch Block Party Mix Competition"!

Easy people, thought I'd do a quick spot of online self promo, and ask for your help in order for me to win this dope competition!

In a nutshell, Vice & Pacemaker have come up with a competition, where one lucky DJ will do a warm-up gig for Sweat X & Alexander Robotnick at the Grolsch Block Party on August 21st, in Stockholm! The top five voted mixes by August 18th enter the final, where VICE selects the winner.

For my entry, I've submitted "The Mash Down: Vol. 2" which you may have stumbled across on this blog, and on all other good blogs/sites. The way the competition works is by getting you lovely people to vote for my mix to win.

All you need to do is to click on this link and click on the "thumbs up" icon. The more votes I get, the better a chance I have at winning!

Thanks in advance for your support. Get voting! :)

Tempa T in Scotland

Tempz is that dude at the moment. "Next Hype" is killing it everytime it gets played. Anyhow, check out his recent trip to Scotland. The clip where he spits over "Invaders Must Die" is straight HYPE! (speaking of which, props for rocking the Playing For Keeps New Era!)

Some funny moments in here, involving a toy shotgun in the arcade, bars about swans and ponds, rapping whilst up a tree, and also spitting "Boy Off Da Ting" on top of a hill in the Scottish countryside. Epic...

They shoulda put Tempz in the Big Brother house.

P.S. If anyone has the CDQ of "Boy Off Da Ting", holla at your boy.

Brisco Robbery (Video)

Spotted this earlier @ JumpOff.TV and thought it needed to be shared. Rapper Brisco was getting his hair cut after a photo shoot when four armed men stormed the barber's shop and robbed everyone inside. Peep the video for full story. The interview with the cop at the end is hilarious.

Bloc Party vs The Killers - Banquet For Mr Brightside (JuxtaPoser Mashup)

I just finished knocking together a quick video for a new mashup I've produced, sampling Bloc Party's "Banquet" and The Killers classic, "Mr Brightside". The idea was to create something for a mainstream/indie student dancefloor and I think the result's alright. Check out the video on youtube:

DJ AM Sneaker Collection (Video)

Aside from being pretty tight on the 1s and 2s, there's another reason for me to be very jealous of DJ AM and thats his massive collection of sneakers. His sneaker fetish is so well known that he even made a cameo appearance in the hit HBO show Entourage picking up some limited edition Nikes. This video is 2 years old and back then had over 600 pairs... Sheeeiiit.

Jealous yet, Cable?
