Darklord x DJ Solo "Jason"

Thought I'd get one more Halloween-related post in before the night is up...

Keeping with the spooky/horror theme, I got sent this little gem from Darklord. Friday the 13th fans will recognise the samples through this track, which snaps into a dirty, tech-influenced roller after an atmospheric buildup...

However, it's DJ Solo's remix which steals the show, starting with a calmer intro, before hitting you in the face with a heavy drop, which then switches up into a Booty Bass-style banger...I'm loving that "It's Your Birthday" sample!

Elucid "Take Charge"

Elucid is definitely one of the few artists out there who is properly bridging the gap between Hip Hop & Dubstep (As I've said before, allow that Snoop Dogg Millionaire crap). If you haven't yet copped his Bear Trapz EP (which is still on constant rotation), or his sick freestyle over DJ Mondie's "Pull Up Dat", I suggest you go check them out.

Anyhow, he's back with another banger, produced by Metabeats. Nothing much to say except it's straight heat. Turn this one up loud!

One of the reasons why I don't watch Reality TV...

Appalling isn't the word...

Why anyone would tune in to watch a homosexual version of the Super Mario Bros jump around like twats, and butcher an equally shit tune by Rick Martin is beyond me...I heard these guys got a lot of hate on the internet, and now I can see why. The sooner this show gets the fuck off my TV screen, the better...

Saying that, at least Simon Cowell tells it how it is.

MSTRKRFT - Bounce (Doorly Remix)

I'm a big MSTRKRFT fan and also a big fan of this tune that's been around for while. I've been playing the A-Trak remix out a lot over the last few months, but I stumbled upon this fresh remix from commercial Dubstep don, Doorly, earlier today and I think I may have found a new set starter.

It sounds kind of how you'd expect a Doorly remix of anything to sound if you're familiar with his other releases, but its undeniably ravey. The gritty synths and powerful kicks work together to create a massive, gut wrenching (but still mainstream friendly) groove. Coupled with a catchy vocal hook and some scratch patterns you've got a big, accessible, crowd pleasing dubstep track that I'm definitely gonna be repping in the club.

Joker & Ginz Vs. Lil Scrappy & Young Buck "Re-Up For Money (Cable THUGSTEP Blend)"

Joker is killing it right now (matter of fact everyone within the Bristol scene is doing a lot), and with his recent remix of Simian Mobile Disco, plus an album in the pipeline, 2010 looks like it could be his year.

I'd already put this Lil Scrappy acapella over Coki's "Shattered" a while back (last year, in fact), but thought I'd update it by putting over Joker & Ginz' filthy anthem "Re-Up". Plus, I think this one pisses over the original blend I put together...I've also added an extra 8 bar intro for the DJs...

Shouts to everyone who's been supporting the THUGSTEP blends, there's more to come soon! In the meantime, enjoy this little re-fix.

So Solid Crew "Since You Went Away" (Music Video)

Okay, so technically it's only Mega Man, Romeo and Lisa Maffia, but I have to say I didn't see this one coming! Anyone in their early to mid-twenties will know about So Solid Crew; "21 Seconds" and "Oh No (Sentimental Things)" still smash it in the club, and this comeback track is pretty strong too...

On another note, I heart Lisa Maffia. That is all...

Daft Punk vs Kanye West - Kanye Interrupts One More Time (JuxtaPoser Party Bomb)

So, I'm assuming that everyone who has access to a computer has seen Kanye's VMA outburst by now, and probably the internet meme phenomenon that it spawned. In fact, if you look a couple of posts back down this blog you'll see a flyer and poster design for POW! featuring this world famous image. Interestingly enough, Mr West himself has seen that poster, having been texted a photo of it by Mr Hudson on thursday night. Small world.

Anyway, back in the immediate aftermath of the VMA incident I made a cheeky little bootleg mashup of Kanye's interruption speech primarily for my set up in Birmingham on the Mainstage @ Student Block Party last month. It went off then and its been well received by most dancefloors since. This is one of a number of exclusive edits that I've thrown together for my sets that I wasn't planning on sharing online but I dropped it last night at POW! and Cable insisted I put it up on here.

Classic Tracks: Rza "We Pop"

Featuring Division & O.D.B.

I randomly came across the video for this slept-on banger on a mate's Facebook profile earlier this evening. I used to rinse this on 12" back in the day (well, 2003), and only recently rediscovered it when re-organising my room (see the DIY posts for more info). I'm gonna make a conscious effort to play this over the weekend...Heavy track.

"Double-barreled shotguuuuuuuuunnnnn!"

This Friday: POW! @ Mustard Lounge

Tomorrow night sees the return of Norwich's favourite eclectic event.

Dubbed as simply "house party in a club", expect filthy tunes, wobbly bass, cheap booze, and a load of inebriated club-goers throwing some shapes on the dance floor.

I'll be there doing my thing along with regular blog contributor Juxtaposer, plus there will be DJ sets from Guise, Dash, Fazhands and more...If you're in the area, come down!

Duck Sauce - "aNYway" Video 2

I wanted to tag an edit onto the end of Cable's last post about the Duck Sauce video, but I don't have the admin privileges to edit his submissions.

Either way, thats no reason why you people should go without, so here you go! The Surface To Air video for aNYway. This video goes in a totally different direction to the other one, still maintaining a retro feel with its distinct nod to the classic film "Ghost".

Duck Sauce "aNYway" (Surface To Air version) from A-Trak on Vimeo.

Both videos are great, and the song is still huge. Earlier this week I actually received a promo CD with the first remix of this track I've heard, expect to hear it on here soon ;)

Duck Sauce "aNYway" (Music Video)

We were one of the first blogs to post about this track back in May, and since then it has gone on to not only become one of the hottest dance tracks of the summer (becoming an Ibiza anthem), but also receive Radio 1 daytime play, as well as being playlisted on other major radio stations such as Kiss.

Juxtaposer and I agreed back then it had the potential to become not only a hit record, but also the summer dance anthem...and I think it's safe to say we were right! With specialist nights to mainstream nightclubs rinsing this, this has elevated A-Trak's profile to new heights.

As for the video, it has a nice retro/throwback feel, featuring a 4 man vocal group & backing band doing their thing on a Top Of The Pops-esque kind of show...Watch out for the syncronised dance moves; they're alot! However I have to say, a cameo from Trizzy or Armand, complete with sunglasses, fake afros, bell-bottoms and brightly-coloured shirts would have been the icing on the cake (pause). If you haven't already copped the track, it's available from all good outlets.

Oh, and if you're wondering about the original sample, it's Final Edition's "I Can Do It (Anyway You Want)"

P.S Whilst we're on the subject of cheeky funk samples, I just had to post this as a throwback classic:

Scorcher Feat. Terminator "Spartan Gang"

Taken from Logan Sama's show on Kiss last night...

All I can say is DAMN! Rudekid conjured up a monster of a beat, whilst Scorcher absolutely killed it on this one...The instrumental should be on Rudekid's album when it drops, whilst another version of this track will feature on Scorcher's forthcoming album (if I'm correct?)

However....Scorcher, if you're reading this, this particular joint NEEDS a release!

Fused Forces "Boy Cried Wolf" BW/ "Big Foot"

Brand new heat from my dudes Fused Forces, which is out now on Substance Abuse. For the 002 release, the Forces give us two dark, atmospheric & techy rollers; "Boy Cried Wolf" sounding like it's been taken straight from a horror movie, whilst the bassline on "Big Foot" is straight dutty.

With their debut album due to drop soon, these guys are well worth watching out for.

Available from Chemical Records, Juno, Uptown Records and all other good independent outlets, with a digital release to follow soon.

Foreign Beggars "Contact" (Music Video)

Massive single from the F.B. camp, produced by D&B dons Noisia. From the forthcoming album "United Colours of Beggatron", which is due out 12th October.

BONUS! Foreign Beggars ft. Guilty Simpson "Prove It"

UK meets Detroit in this sick collaboration. Although it's tagged, it's well worth a listen. You can cop this & "Contact" from iTunes now.

Urban Nerds & ATG on NYE!

Okay, so it's probably a little bit early to be getting excited about NYE (considering we haven't even celebrated Halloween yet), but trust me, this party is going to be huge.

Urban Nerds & ATG both put on sick events, and the fact they're teaming up for a NYE special means that it's gonna be big. Alot, in fact. Location/venue and lineup is to be confirmed, but there are some early bird tickets for £10 which you can cop here. Be quick though, as these are liable to sell out fast!
