Hip Hop Nostalgia: Lords Of The Underground
"Chief Rocka"
I'm feeling a tad nostalgic today. These dudes are definitely one of my favourite rap groups of the 1990s.
"Here Come The Lords"
"Funky Child"
"Here Come The Lords" was packed full of classics - "Flow On", "Psycho", and "Keep It Underground" were also ridiculously dope. I may have to dig this album out later!

New heat from Mack Maine & Don Cannon’s upcoming project “This Is Just A Mixtape”.
Yep, there's even more vocoder action from Weezy too...Whilst I think Wayne's dope, I really think they should ban the use of vocoders from 2009 onwards.

Proper x Vans 2008 Holiday Collection
Following on from last year’s SK8-HI pack with Vans, Proper have cooked up another collabo for the holiday season. Check the interview out over at Sneaker Freaker, where Proper’s owner Tristan Caruso shares some insight into the conceptual aspect of this nautical inspired pack, which features the Native American (One-piece), Authentic Low and Chukka Del Barco LX, each available in two colorways. He also shares his thoughts on the current sneaker scene.
The sneakers also contain some nice little touches such as thicker insoles, and retro-style boxes.

Star Trek Movie Trailer (Video)
I'm not a Trekkie, but damn this looks dope!
Star Trek stans will appreciate Leonard Nimoy reprising his role as the older version of Mr. Spock. Simon Pegg has been cast as Scotty, whilst Eric Bana has been cast as the main villain. Should definitely be a good movie.
As a bonus, Lt. Uhura will be played by Zoe Saldana.
Good choice!

P Money "Everything" (Music Video)
I got to know about P Money from watching the DMC World Final videos back in the day. His routine from 2001 is still a personal favourite of mine. I then stumbled across some of his records a few years later (namely "3, 2, 1" featuring Skillz), and realised he actually made some beats too. Dude even worked with Akon as well....
Anyhow, peep the above video for his latest joint "Everything", featuring Vince Harder. A very nice Disco/Club-influenced banger, which definitely deserves airplay over here in the UK.
With this, and Savage's recent success with the re-release of "Swing" (it was originally released back in 2005, but has since copped 1,000,000 downloads!), New Zealand's definitely doing the damn thing....
BONUS! Here's his DMC routine from the 2001 World Final:

Jim Jones x Complex Magazine Cover
Capo seems to be doing it big at the moment, what with swagger-jacking other people's joints, starring in the broadway show(!) "The Hip-Hop Monologues", and having "Pop Champagne" blasting off in the clubs and on radio.
On top of releasing Prey IV Reign (which is now early 2009), he will also be starring in Starz drama "Crash", releasing a Dame Dash-produced Documentary, and also a fitness DVD. Yeh, a fitness DVD....
You can read the full article here before the magazine hits the stands on December 4th. Interesting read, which covers Kanye giving Cam' the "Down & Out" beat for free, Max B, Rocafella Records, and more....

Also, I've read on t'internet that the re-release of "Carter 3" (aka "Carter 3: The Rebirth", which is due for release around Christmas time) won't contain ANY of the original tracks as the original release.
However it'll still have the same title. The reason being that Dwayne wants "Carter IV" to be "what everyone wants "Carter IV" to be", as the re-release will be more experimental. So in other words this may be his "808's & Heartbreak"? I digress...

Newborn Rodeo x Mickey Factz Interview
So the homie Ernest over at Newborn Rodeo caught up with one of the dopest emcees out there right now - Mickey Factz, to talk about being on the XXL front cover, to his releationship with his mother, online hate, and more....
"NBR: Congratulations on the XXL cover. You’ve come a long way since I saw that video of you freestyling in the barbershop over two years ago. I feel like most artists would be content with the type of ascension you’ve had. Are you? If not, what’s next for Mickey Factz?
Mickey Factz: I’m blessed to have the accomplishments I’ve had but I’m not content. Getting the XXL cover lasts for 45 days. After that, another mag drops. What’s next for Mickey Factz is bigger, better and more innovative ways to stand apart from everyone creating music.
NBR: I’ve heard you say that they’ll be comparing you to Michael Jackson by the time you’re done with your run as an artist. Which of your next moves is most congruent with achieving that goal?
Mickey Factz: I’m feeling like Mike right when he left the Jackson 5. It was all about the set up. I feel my set up will line up perfectly with what he did. I can’t disclose all of that info at this time. But it will be crazy. Trust…
NBR: I’m sure other emerging artists have similarly lofty aspirations. I know you have nothing but respect for your contemporaries, but I also know you’re an advocate for the spirit of competition. Does the notoriously confident Mickey Factz feel like any other artists pose a threat to his rise?
Mickey Factz: I feel other artists that are doing it right now have their respective lanes they are in. They will take over that lane and do their thing. I, on the other hand, am not threatened by anyone because I know what’s about to happen.
NBR: Moving on from your relationship with other rappers, what about the relationship with your mother? I heard an interview where you said everything was good now, but you just talked about how you and you mother “don’t speak” in your Best Of Both Offices freestyle. What’s the real story?
Mickey Factz: Its an on and off relationship. Every parent has only the best aspirations for their child. She doesn’t want me to be a bum. Granted. She also doesn’t care about these accolades I’ve been receiving. She wants to make sure I have a stable way to live. That’s where we bump heads because these accolades help me to achieve that lifestyle.
NBR: Speaking of your mother, I know that you dropping out of school initiated the rift between you two. I’m in school right now, but my focus is elsewhere, so I can relate to that decision. What was that process like for you? Did you ever doubt yourself?
Mickey Factz: That was one of the hardest decisions to make as a man. On one hand I knew I was talented enough to make it. On the other hand, how am I gonna live if she’s threatening to kick me out and not be there. It was a gut instinct move that I’ll never forget. I followed my dreams and kept going.
NBR: Along with dropping out of school, your exposure on Nah Right has been another pivotal point in your career. What’s your relationship with Eskay like?
Mickey Factz:: Eskay is a cool dude. He doesn’t post everything I send him which makes me respect him more. At the end of the day it was about me working hard for those posts. Nothing more nothing less. He respects my work ethic as much as my music.
NBR: Clearly, lots of people enjoy your music or you wouldn’t be where you are today, but it’s hard to ignore the immense online hate directed towards Mickey Factz, specifically blog commentators. How does that affect you?
Mickey Factz: Hate towards me is great. I laugh at everyone hating. Its great. It’s the best feeling when someone just randomly hates. All they’re doing is spreading the name.
NBR: You’re known for your electronica influences, but do you see yourself moving past that sound at some point? And will we ever see an abstract Mickey Factz project a la 808’s & Heartbreak?
Mickey Factz: Every artist grows sonically. The sound will change as I grow as an artist. As far as being abstract as Kanye has been, you never know what can happen. As long as it’s hot, nobody will complain.
NBR: Now for the obligatory Supra question. You’ve expressed confidence in the fact that tastemakers know what you did for Supra. However, I see a lot of Lil’ Wayne stans walking around campus with their freshly eBay-ed Supra gear who undeniably have no idea who you are. How do you feel about those guys?
Mickey Factz:: Show them love still. At the end of the day, as long as people embrace the brand and help build Supra, that’s all that matters to me.
NBR: What’s your current financial situation?
Mickey Factz:: I make a living off shows. That’s my bread and butter.
NBR: How well are you eating off of shows? And what about GFCNY’s side hustles (Rocksmith, etc.)?
Mickey Factz: A business man always has ways to make revenue. Getting revenue is the easiest thing to do when you co-own a company.
NBR: Well, it’s been a pleasure. Until the next time, keep up the good work. I’ll be waiting on The Achievement in the mean time. Any additional information on that project?
Mickey Factz: It’s going to be one of the many life changing experiences fans will encounter on my journey. Trust me its going to be insane."

Nike are back with their third installment of the Destroyer Pack, which again features a varsity jacket and a Dunk High. This time around, they've also included a sweatshirt.

Dizzee Rascal Interview on Newsnight (Video)
So Jeremy Paxman, best known for going after Politicians on Newsnight, (and also presenting University Challenge) had Dizzee Rascal as guest on last night's show...
Whilst he can be entertaining when he goes in (pause) on certain guests....He gets the gasface though for asking Dizzee Rascal "Do you consider yourself to be British?"
This interview's recently been slammed on Facebook, with a lot people saying that Dizzee was a poor representation of black people in the UK, and that the BBC should have either got Lewis Hamilton, Bashy (who would have been an interesting interview), or a back politician instead...Ironically enough, a black politician was next to him on screen....
Dizzee wasn't the most eloquent interviewee, but at least he gave an honest answer, rather than long, drawn out amibiguous replies that most politicians who are invited on the show tend to give...To say he's a poor role model is an injustice, considering he's a platinum-selling artist, has achieved a UK no. 1 without major label backing, and has also done his fair share of chairty work too....

I've thrown together the best tracks off the mixtape, added the usual cuts and juggles, and came up with nice little mini mix for your ears...

"Alizé Remixed 2008" Tour Recap
So I finally got the pictures off my digital camera and uploaded them...Here's how the "Alizé Remixed 2008" Tour went down at Paper in London the other week...
If you haven't been to Paper (Café Royal) before, it's pretty swanky...and pretty expensive too! Luckily I wasn't really drinking that night, otherwise I could have easily spent a crazy amount (luckily there were drinks vouchers on standby!). However, the decor's pretty nice, as is the soundsystem....
So after arriving at 6pm(ish) for the soundchecks, I got to meet two of the other Remixed winners who were also spinning on the night - E Double D (the Birmingham heat winner) and DJ Stampeeder (the Leeds heat winner). We also got to chop it up with Grandmaster Flash as well before the event...
One of the Jump Off dudes was down filming the event...If I remember correctly, it may make MTV Base...I'll keep you all updated.
Stampeeder smacked it with a Baltimore and Electro selection, whilst E Double D pulled out some sick old school R&B and Rare Groove joints....
Now, the original plan was for us three to spin for about 30 mins each in the 2nd room, with Flash coming on in the main room afterwards...As things had got slightly delayed during the night my set got moved to the main room, and was pushed back right until the end of the night after Flash had been on and done his thing - meaning I had the closing set of the tour....No pressure at all then....
As I had to spin for the last 45 minutes of the night, nearly every big tune had been played by the that point. I knew I couldn't go down the Hip Hop & Funk route, as Flash had smacked it with that. So I just decided to mash things up with a mixture of UK Garage (Maxwell D's "Serious" killed it!), House, New Jack Swing, R&B and some Hip Hop, finishing off with bit of Motown....It did the trick....
Overall, it was a great experience, and I met a lot of cool people too. Thanks to Alizé for putting on the event as well as the competition...Definitely one of my most memorable nights so far as a DJ.
Lastly, shouts to everyone from Uproar - Sam, Julian, Aron, Jag and Chelcie, Bluntwun who managed to pass through as well, E Double D, Stampeeder and also H20 who was in the building...
Oh, and last but not least....
In the words of Gollum, "my precious!" I'm gonna be saving these for Xmas & NYE....
