I'm so glad these have finally surfaced... For those not in the know, DJ Q-Bert & Yoga Frog used to put out Turntable TV on VHS (remember those?) back in the late 90's. They featured scratch footage, amongst other random funny bits and pieces.
These videos are legendary and are a part of turntablist culture. I've got a bunch of these sitting in a drawer somewhere, so I might have to convert them to digital at some point in the near future.
Village Manifesto has been on heavy iPod rotation this week, and believe it or not this is the first time I've ever seen this video... As a result I thought I'd share it with you guys...
It also gives me an excuse to post a picture of Lauren Speed:
Rinse FM resident, Bullet Train boss and all-round dope DJ Marco Del Horno explains the story behind his debut album "Wake Up Call". It's deep.
Having listened to his album (snippets are up on Soundcloud), it's a solid debut, consisting of a mixture of House, through to UK Bass, Dubstep and Garage, showcasing his versatility as a producer.
You can get his album for FREE with the latest issue of iDJ Magazine. It'll be available to download from 2nd May.
As of this Friday (22nd April), you will be able to purchase the Triangulum 001 release exclusively from Juno Download, and from the 29th April at all other good digital outlets.
I'm still using both Scratch Live and Traktor in my DJ sets, but if I was to get this/get given this (one can wish!), then I'll be making the switch over. This looks sick!
Granted, most of his tunes will now always be compared to Next Hype (which has now become a modern day classic within Urban Music imo) or Hypest Hype, but this is Tempz at his best - angry lyrics about karate chopping man over a skippy beat.
If you ever get the chance to see the man perform, make sure you go. You'll realise why there is so much hype surrounding him.
Yesterday, In remembrance and tribute to Proof on the 5th anniversary of his passing, Paul Rosenberg dropped a previously unreleased joint from Proof and the late great J Dilla.
Dating back to 1994, the track also features T3 of Slum Village on the chorus.
In his words:
As promised, here is another previously unreleased (as far as I know) track from Proof & Dilla, called “The Fizzo.” I heard about this track before I ever actually heard it from a very excited DJ Head back in ’94, right around the time that F.C. (Funky Cowboys) was created. In his typical fashion when he had heard something that nobody else had, Head just giggled and said “man, Proof and Jaydee got this new record, man…” When I heard it I knew what Head was so amped-up about, these guys really had a crazy chemistry together. That’s T3 of Slum Village on the chorus.
I don’t want to do anything but remember P and his music today, so hopefully this will put you in the same headspace. Enjoy- until next year: BIG PROOF FOREVER.
In other news, the 001 will be out April 29th from all good digital outlets. Please support the scene and purchase a copy if you're feeling it. Big up.
As a spot of promo for my upcoming gig with Yasmin in Austria on Monday, I decided to put together an exclusive Snowbombing mix, containing a bunch of upfront Grime, Dubstep and Hip Hop tracks, as well as the odd classic. It contains some of the tracks used in January's Annie Nightingale mix, but with a lot more scratching this time around!
I've also pressed up 150 of these on CD, all individually numbered. If you want a copy, hit me up!
