DJ MK "Vol. 17: London Go Hard" Mixtape

The homie DJ MK hit me up with a new mix last night. Some of you may know him from his show on Kiss 100, every Sunday from 9-11pm, and as Roots Manuva's tour DJ. He's also a beast when it comes to mixtapes too. I remember when I used to cop them from Suspect Packages & Mr. Bongo back in the day...

Fretless Fader Midi Prototype x Vestax Controller One (Video)

Wow...

Spotted this over @ Khal's blog earlier today...This shit's amazing.

"This is the first public view of the Fretless Fader system I designed for use with the Controller One (posted February 22, 2009). With this you can cut and change notes through 2 octaves without taking your hands away from the vinyl and fader."

Dude kills it with the talk box as well...Nice to see the boundaries of turntablism being pushed even further.

Stanky Legg Proves to be Alarmingly Popular...SMH

So the official video has dropped...and I still think the track sucks ass...

However, after reading the stats that were posted up on DJ B's Blog, I'm pretty amazed/shocked at how popular it's become...

** #1 video on BET’s 106 & Park **

** Performing on BET’s: Rip The Runway (airing 3/2)**

** #19 on MTV2 Network **

** 30,000 in combined Digital and Mobile Sales (TW) **

** Over 2,460 spins this week (+233) **

** #28* on the Billboard R&B Singles Chart **

** #13* on the Billboard Rap Songs Chart**

**Fans recorded over 12,000 voicemails on the Official Stanky Legg Hotline**

** Over 15 million streams online **

That's a pretty big look...and there I was thinking that remedial dances were sooooo 2007?

Being Charlie Sloth: Episode 18 (Video)

This week features Flo Rida, Eddie Kadi, and also a performance from Charlie @ the Carhartt store.

The Flo Rida interview is pretty funny...

Eric Haze x Stussy "Las Vegas" T-Shirts

Nice new collabo between Stussy and legendary artist Eric Haze, who recently leant his hand to paint the walls of Stussy's LA store. I need some new garms, come to think of it...

Available from Stussy Direct here.

Swag Surfin' (Video)

The remedial dances continue in 2009 with this...erm...poor example of rhythmical movement. Pretty hilarious, but not as funny as watching Tim do the Arab Money dance.

Shout to Khal for the heads up.

Snoop Dogg & Ciara Do The Stanky Legg (video)

Please, stop this shit now. It's not cool.

Rihanna's Face

I kinda shied away from jumping on the bandwagon, and posting about the whole Chris Brown & Rihanna incident which went down the other week. Granted, we all like a bit of gossip, but I thought it would have been bad taste to do so.

Anyhow, the above evidence is now out, and shows the extent of the damage caused by Chris Brown. This is pretty shocking, to say the least.

On the real, I hope his career is now finished. I certainly won't be playing his records anymore. I hope you won't be either.

Orchard St. x Reebok Omni Hex Ride

I'm normally one for hybrid sneakers...In my opinion, the AF Jordans sucked balls, and the Air Max 90/Free model is pretty stinking...However, this collaboration between Orchard St. & Reebok isn't actually that bad...A nice fusion between basketball & fashion.

T.I. Feat. Justin Timberlake "Dead & Gone" (Music Video)

One of hottest joints off "Paper Trail"

Plastician Set - Invasion @ Matter (06/02/09) (Video)

Just got put on to this from Ben/Hotpoint @ Optic...Plastician featuring Dizzee Rascal, Newham Generals (D Double E & Footsie), Skepta & Jammer at Matter, which is owned by the peeps behind Fabric. Seriously, when was the last time you saw/heard a lineup like this?!

Seeing the top 5 emcees in the game perform together is big, but it's all about Dizzee, who completely murkalized the dance. Check the part where he spits "Stop Dat" over Caspa's "My Pet Monster". It's too much...Definitely one of those "wish I was there" moments...

More footage of Jammer & Skepta killing it...

BONUS! Speaking of Jammer, I had to post this up. The video gives me jokes every time.

EXTRA BONUS! Remember the Murkle Girl video? Apparently she went to my uni...

My Gigs This Week...

Yep, more shameless self-promo from yours truly...I've actually got 3 dates in Norwich this week, which should be pretty interesting...

Anyhow, Wednesday, I'm back up @ Optic for "Connected", throwing down Hip Hop, R&B, Dancehall, UKG, Grime & UK Funky/Afro House...and no, I won't be playing the "Ringa Roses Skank". So don't even think about asking.

Thursday, I'll be at my new monthly residency @ Po Na Na for "Audio"...Electro, Fidget, Dubstep, Bmore, Juke/Ghettotech, Bassline, plus whatever else I feel like spinning...

Then on Friday, I'm at the Mustard Lounge for "POW!" This is gonna be large...Expect pics, plus some video (should the video camera decide to work this time!)

Being Charlie Sloth: Episode 17 (Video)

Whilst Charlie's original verse on "Friday Night Girl" is pretty good, I think he may need to re-write it if he's gonna be on the same track with D.O.E. Dude can spit.

Anyhow, watch the video for details on how to vote.

The new Dirtee Stank podcast is up for grabs, featuring Dizzee, Newham Generals, and Setmex on the ones & twos...

Semtex says:

"Raw and uncut, it’s the first Dirtee Stank Podcast, it took a few takes but we got there in the end. There’s an interview with the Gens, some exclusives. Dizzee Rascal, The Newhan Gens, and Chrome go in hard on the mic, I’m on the decks. It’s hot!"

Mistabishi "Printer Jam"

Some new D&B goodness for you all...

I first got to know about Mistabishi though High Contrast's "Watch The Ride" mixtape. "She Lied" was a personal favourite for 2008.

Taken from his debut album, "Drop", which will released on Feb 23rd through Hospital Records, "Printer Jam" is a track that, as the name suggest, makes use of various printer sounds as its main structure. The result? He's made one of the sickest, and most creative D&B joints I've heard in a long while...

Get: Mistabishi "Printer Jam"

This is my new favourite joint of 2009.

Do The "Ringa Roses" Skank (Video)

This gets the gasface. Swagger jacking a sick beat (Footsteps' "Green Light") is okay, provided you do something dope with it. And this is far from dope...

I gotta agree with Mistajam, this shit's now become the new line dancing. I guess everyone now wants that "Head, Shoulders, Knees & Toes" money...

BONUS! Whilst on the subject, here's the official video for "H.S.K.T."

DJ Cable "Notorious B.I.G. Mini Mix"

Seeing as the much talked-about Biggie biopic "Notorious" is released today here in the UK, I've decided to post up a little Biggie mix from the vaults...

Taken from my 2008 Weekly Mixes (collect them all!), it features some of my favourite Biggie cuts, throwing together some classics, some rare heat, and a blend from yours truly...

DJ Cable's 2008 Weekly Mix #35 (Notorious B.I.G. Edition!)

Tracklisting:

01. Notorious B.I.G. - Just Playing (Dreams)
02. Notorious B.I.G. - Who Shot Ya?
03. Red Hot Lover Tone Feat. Notorious B.I.G., Organized Konfusion & M.O.P. - For My Peeps
04. Notorious B.I.G. - Gimme The Loot
05. Notorious B.I.G. - One More Chance (Ready To Die LP Version)
06. Notorious B.I.G. - Hypnotize
07. Notorious B.I.G. - Party & Bullsh*t (DJ Cable Blend)
08. Notorious B.I.G. - 10 Crack Commandments

I've still got my doubts about the movie, but will still be going to see it this weekend. Expect a full review soon...

UK Turntablism: DJ 2Tall

Just came across this little video on 2Tall's Myspace earlier this evening. For those not in the know, he was one of the first turntablists/DJs in the UK to experiment with the whole loop pedal/live turntable composition, and was also a member of the now-defunct Truesicians crew ('03 DMC UK Team Champions)...Oh, he can also cut really f*cking well too...

Anyhow, check out the above video, it's dope. By the looks of things, he's got some interesting projects coming up in 2009, working with Foreign Beggars and the like..He also has a few mixes on his profile which are well worth checking out.

BONUS! 2Tall's routine from the 2003 DMC UK Final

That Dillinja routine at 4.45 still remains a personal favourite...

Copywrite "The Real Fake Shady"

Copywrite obviously doesn't like Asher...Maybe he's still bitter at the fact that his Roc-a-fella deal never came through?

Anyhow, Dude's okay on the mic in general. "The High Exhaulted" was a fairly good album, as was the "Cruise Control" mixtape. He then kinda dropped of the radar a few years back, shortly after catching a beatdown from Cage's camp (pics and full story online somewhere, I can't be bothered to explain it all).

But getting back to the diss...It's pretty average. He just mainly goes on about Asher Roth sounding like Eminem. Yes, we already know that. But in all fairness, Asher's dope. And he shows more potential as an emcee than Copywrite...

Listen/Get: Copywrite "The Real Fake Shady"

Your thoughts?

Damn I miss Uni! If only it was as crazy as the one in this video...

Clipse x Kaws (Video)

Kaws is doing the album artwork?!

In the words of Dr. Sam Beckett, "Oh Boy!"

Euro Dance Classics - Gala "Freed From Desire"

Classic Euro Dance record from back in the day (1996). It's cheesy, it's catchy, and I can't stop bopping my head whenever this comes on the radio, or even in the club. It's quite funny how after this blew up, Gala literally disappeared from the scene.

Speaking of which, one of the joints which I've been rinsing for a long while now is in fact the Roundtable Knights' version. It's a dope Bmore take on the original, including chopped up vocals, a dirty bassline, and some classic piano stabs on the breakdown...Every time I play this record it smashes the place to pieces....

Get: Roundtable Knights "Freak From Desire"

Theophilus London "Head, Shoulders, Knees & Toes"

Just got this in the inbox from the man himself. Regular readers may remember that I posted up the video of the Theophilus London and Jesse Boykins III skanking out to "Bongo Jam" at SOB's in NYC.

I then got the heads up that he was gonna jump on "Head, Shoulders, Knees & Toes". Whilst Wale did his thing, dude smashed this beat to pieces...Big up Theophilus London! Be sue to check out his Myspace for more audio.

Listen/Get: Theophilus London "Head, Shoulders..."

I wonder who's gonna be next to jump on this beat?

DJ Cable "The Mash Down: Vol. 1"

I've been promising you a mixtape since the start of this year...so here it is!

Rather than do Weekly Mixes, I'll be doing them on a Monthly basis. Each mix will vary in genre, or will be a cross-genre mashup...Hip Hop, D&B, Electro/Fidget, Dubstep, House - There'll be something for everyone...

So, to kick start this year's set of mixes I've gone in with a dope D&B mix for you to check out. There's a nice mixture of jump up, tech-step, disco, vocal & liquid D&B here for your ears.

I've taken the name for this series - "The Mash Down" - from the rather excellent track by Noah D, which will be released digitally next month on RTDLTD. I think it kinda sums up the whole theme pretty well.

Listen/Get: DJ Cable "The Mash Down: Vol. 1"

Tacklisting:

01. Dan Miracle - Digital Data VIP
02. Clipz - Push It Up (TC Remix)
03. Culture Shock - Imax

Wale "African Warrior" Freestyle

Only a week after killing it over "Heads, Shoulders, Knees & Toes", Semtex brings us another Wale freestyle, as he goes in over Donaeo's "African Warrior". For those not in the know, the original is one of the biggest UK Funky joints out at the moment...You play this anywhere, it's game over.

Big up Semtex, probably the hardest working DJ in the UK.

Whilst we're on the subject of US artists over UK beats, shout out to Theophillus London, who should hopefully be dropping his "Heads, Shoulders..." freestyle real soon.
